Building Upon this Rich Architectural History

The opportunity to draw upon and showcase the town's rich history and unique architecture as a community and regional resource can be seen from a number of local initiatives which are currently under way. These activities include:
  • A ten million-dollar investment by the Town of Wallingford in streetscape improvements such as brick sidewalks, park benches, street trees, period gas lanterns, and underground utilities throughout downtown Wallingford.
  • The redevelopment of a key fourteen acre parcel in downtown Wallingford that will include the creation of a town square surrounded by small shops and gardens, restoration of a lavish 1850's building as a 50 room boutique hotel, and the construction of a number of upscale condominium units.
  • A multi-million dollar capital improvement project at the Choate Rosemary Hall campus, focusing on restoration and refurbishing of all of the school's key facilities.
  • The construction of a seven mile linear trail for pedestrians and bicyclists along the Quinnipiac River, adjacent to our downtown.
  • Plans for the restoration of the ten acre seventeenth century Center Street Cemetery, located in the heart of the downtown, as a "cemetery museum", highlighting the thousands of artistic gravestones, memorial tablets, and statuary that can be found there.
  • The clustering of upscale antique shops in downtown Wallingford.

Each and every one of these independent initiatives shows that Wallingford wants to draw upon its history and its physical and architectural surroundings as a resource to make the community a better place for residents and visitors alike.
